Omaha Nebraska native and Navy Vet Jeremy Carter filled the Florida Studio Theatre with his “Crew’s” robust jazz fusion feast of sound as he was brought back to open the Sarasota Jazz Festival for the third straight year, according to Nik Walker, President of the Jazz Club of Sarasota.

Jeremy was all business to start the set with a bold cover of Herbie Hancock’s “MAIDEN VOYAGE” to mark the maiden voyage of Jeremy’s Crew at the dinner cabaret-style two-level Florida Studio Theatre venue with a comfortable balcony where the HNICs hung out!

His drummer Rod Alnord was like an all-American point guard passing No Look Passes to guitarist LaRue Nickelson for slam dunks all night, as Too Cool Jeremy shed his purple jacket with a Thick Prince look and matching purple deck shoes Jeremy came prepared to get down to some serious saxophone business with a strong standup bassist Steve Boiser’s steady backcourt stopper.

The Jeremy Carter Crew was a well-oiled quartet that covered Joe Henderson and slipped in a little bossa nova before the night was over as “The Girl From Ipanema” strolled the white quartz sand beaches of Siesta Key.
Tonight was the first night of a week that will culminate with Marcus Miller on the Main Stage on the weekend and the MJR Latin Project led by Mauricia J Rodriguez from Tampa, as well as a Tuesday evening “TROLLEY CRAWL” in downtown.
Sarasota Jazz features stops at 10 different venues from 5:30 to 10 p.m.
